Description
Sage (Salvia officinalis) is part of the Laminaceae family and is a native perennial plant
of the Mediterranean basin. It takes its name from "salvus" which means "healthy". Sage has
properties well known since ancient times such as: anti-inflammatory, balsamic properties, it is a valid
help in the event of physical or intellectual exhaustion, it has' digestive and expectorant properties, it is in
able to cure painful menstrual syndromes and menopausal disorders (especially the ailment
of the "caldane": for this reason it is called "natural estrogen"), offers a good answer against the
water retention, helps in case of edema, for rheumatism, migraines, is indicated in gingivitis and
abscesses, fights states of asthenia and depression, is a "deterrent" of diabetes, speeds up the process
healing after a wound, if properly stored, saves food from deterioration. There
sage is contraindicated for those suffering from nervous diseases and should be consumed with caution by
women in the lactation period.
INFUSION: 1 tablespoon of sage leaves, 1 cup of water, pour the sage into the boiling water and
extinguish the fire. Cover and leave to infuse for 5 min. Filter the infusion and drink it in case of tension
nervousness, indigestion, cramps, menstrual disturbances and hot flashes caused by menopause.
